Tips to master WhatsApp in 2018
BY NACHO REQUENA MOLINA
WhatsApp is the leading messaging app worldwide, boasting more than 1.5 billion daily users. According to the stats, this number is expected to surpass 2 billion this year, i.e., one in every three people on the planet will have this popular communication tool.
In spite of these incredible figures, very few know how to make the most of this app, so we’ll give you four tips to master WhatsApp in 2018.
Top tips for WhatsApp
1. Install the web version
It’s one of the great unknown features, and it works better every day (without major issues): the web version. WhatsApp implemented its web tool a few years ago so that you can use the app from your PC.
If you use WhatsApp as a work tool, this installable version (also executable from your browser) is an essential feature, since you’ll avoid picking up your cell phone every two seconds. From the tool, we can access all groups and people, as well as user statuses. Also, you can start new conversations, since our cell phone contacts are available from this tool (which is wonderful).
2. Disable automatic downloads
This is our most important tip every time we talk about WhatsApp: disable automatic downloads for the app. The messaging service has all downloads enabled by default, meaning images, videos, and audio files will be downloaded to your device without your knowledge.

To disable automatic downloads, just go to “Settings” and click on “Data and storage.”Here you can remove any features you don’t like. Our advice is to disable the general setting straightaway, i.e., so nothing is downloaded. Your smartphone’s memory (and performance) will thank you.
3. Use WhatsApp to send files
To use this feature in all its glory, you must have the web tool that we mentioned in the first point. Once you install it (or open it from the browser), it’s as easy as using WhatsApp’s “send” feature to share files.
After several updates, the messaging service offers the possibility of sending all types of files and up to large sizes. We can assure you (from experience) that it’s a great way to send documents quickly and easily.
4. Configure your privacy
Don’t want somebody to know you’ve read their messages? Remember that WhatsApp has an important feature for avoiding the famous blue tick, i.e., so others don’t know if you’ve read their messages.
To enable this privacy feature, just click on “Settings,” go to “Privacy” and disable “Read receipts.” Of course, there’s one downside: if you get rid of this option, remember that it also works in reverse (you won’t know if somebody has read your messages either).
