Just in: Kaduna-based politician reportedly assassinated

A Nigerian politician and businessman, Moses Banka, from the Sanga local government area of Kaduna has been reportedly assassinated by unknowned gunmen at Ankwa village of Jema’a council area of the Kaduna state. Daily Independent reports that Alhaji Yusuf Usman, the administrator of Jema’a local government council, confirmed the incident on Thursday, February 1, in Kafanchan saying the deceased was assassinated in the night of Wednesday, January 31, at his residence in Ankwa village in Godogodo chiefdom.
“The assassins stormed the residence and headed straight to his room and shot at him without hurting anyone before they left.
“Before his death, he was also an active farmer and owned an irrigation farm at Dogon Daji Reserve close to Godogodo where he farmed hectares of soya beans,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported him as saying.
According to Usman, a formal report has been made to the authorities concerning the incident. Also confirming the incident, Alhaji Abdulmuminin Ashafa, the administrator of Sanga local government council, said the deceased had made meaningful contributions to the state and its people.
A resident, Malam Yuguda Dauda, said late Banka would be remembered for single-handedly building the local government council secretariat in Gwantu as well as sponsoring politicians from the area.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that Vanguard recently indicated that two people were ambushed and killed at Wereng village in Riyom local government area of Plateau state on Sunday, November 12 by suspected herdsemail&utm_campmen. According to the report, the victims were said to have been ambushed near Wereng station and they were found dead on Monday, November 13.
Locals quoted in the report said they believe Fulani herdsmen killed the victims.
